The Game Awards adalah acara bergengsi yang diselenggarakan setiap tahunnya untuk mengapresiasi pencapaian dalam industri video game. Acara The Game Awards kali ini dipandu langsung oleh seorang jurnalis game bernama Geoff Keighley.
Tahun ini, acara The Game Awards 2019 cukup kontroversi, pasalnya ada satu game yang diduga diistimewakan sehingga masuk ke banyak kategori sekaligus. Namun Geoff Keigley mengkonfirmasi bahwa ia terlibat dalam pemilihan peserta nominasi.

Banyak yang mengira bahwa Death Stranding akan merebut kategori Game of The Year, mengingat Death Stranding masuk kebanyak kategori. Meskipun begitu, tidak serta merta membuat Death Stranding memenangkan kategori Game of The Year.
Game besutan Hideo Kojima ini harus bersaing dengan Control, sebuah Game Third Person Shooter Baru dari Remedy yang baru-baru ini menjadi pemenang di IGN Game of The Year. Meskipun nominasi Game of The Year kali ini dipimpin oleh Death Stranding dan Control. Keduanya tidak membawa pulang gelar Game of The Year di The Game Award 2019.
