HBO kembali mendapat kemenangan besar seperti tahun lalu dengan menyapu dua kategori top di ajang Primetime Emmy Awards 2016. Game of Thrones dan Veep masing-masing memenangkan Outstanding Drama dan Comedy Series selama dua tahun berturut-turut.
GoT meraih total 12 Emmy tahun ini, termasuk 9 Creative Arts Emmy yang diumumkan minggu lalu. Acara ini juga memenangkan Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Miguel Sapochnik) dan Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Benioff dan D.B. Weiss) Minggu, 18 September. Film ini mengumpulkan 38 Emmy sejauh ini.
Sementara itu, Veep mengantongi penghargaan lain, Outstanding Axtress in a Comedy Series untuk Julia Loiuis-Dreyfus. Ini kemenangan kelima berturut-turut dan ketujuh untuk perannya di serial HBO. Dia telah mengumpulkan 9 Emmy sepanjang karir sejauh ini. Dalam sambutannya, dia mengenang ayahnya ayng meninggal pada hari Jumat. “Saya sengat senang ia menyukai veep karena pendapatnya adalah salah satu yang benar-benar penting,” katanya.
